It all began in Taiwan where the very first Cat Cafe opened up on 1998. Soon the concept spread to Japan where it exploded in popularity, and by 2015 there were over 150 Cat Cafes in Japan alone. Not too long after that the concept jumped the Pacific to the United States and the rest, as they say, was history
So what exactly is a Cat Cafe?
Well, simply put it is a place where people and cats interact.
People can play with the cats, take pictures with them or just sit back and relax as you watch the cats lounge around you (or on you as the case may be).
Often drinks and food would be served, that’s where the ‘Cafe’ part comes in, but not always. There are several Cat Cafes around the world that don’t serve any food or drinks due to local hygiene restrictions.
